John has been an institutional venture investor since 1997 following a successful decade long industry operating career. He and Kanwal have known each other since the 1980s, and were co-investors in a number of companies over the 10 years prior to founding Inventus.
Industry Executive - John began his career building high-growth technology businesses for ten years prior to venture. He initially led channel marketing for IBM, Microsoft, and Intel product lines during the early growth years of the personal computer industry. He then held business management and product line marketing roles in the high-performance workstation industry, initially with Sun Microsystems, and then for the first seven years of the 1990's building Silicon Graphics' start-up desktop workstation business into a multi-billion dollar product line. John applies his successful operating career to the practice of mentoring and backing entrepreneurs.
Venture Investor - Since 1997, John has been responsible for venture investments in 17 companies resulting in 7 liquidity events including two IPOs to date - most notably Kaboodle, Placeware, IC Works, Monolithic Power Systems, RedEnvelope, and Cygnal Integrated Products. John began his venture career with Scale Venture Partners where John was one of the founding Managing Directors raising two funds totaling $600 million. At Inventus, John is a Board Director at CreditSesame, Vivu, Dhingana, and Sokrati.
John earned a BA from U.C. Berkeley and an MBA from the Haas School of Business at U.C. Berkeley. He has financed numerous Indo-Americans and multi-national Indo-US companies and has been a Charter Member of TiE where he has mentored young Indian entrepreneurs.
Industry Executive - As part of his tenure with GE Capital, Parag cycled out to an industry operating role for two-years at Genpact, India's largest business process outsourcing company and an operating subsidiary of GE.
Venture Investor - Parag has been an institutional venture investor in India most of his 18 year career. He has invested in 27 companies across India, resulting in 14 exits including three IPOs to date - most notably Geometric Software, Powertel Boca, vEngines, Vertex India, and TV Today. Parag's venture career began with ICICI Ventures in Bangalore in 1993, near the beginning of India's economic liberalization and emergence of its venture industry. At ICICI, Parag was part of the core team investing in India's fast emerging technology, media & telecom sectors. In 2000, Parag moved to Delhi to join GE Equity where he continued his early-stage venture investing focus. Before joining the Inventus team in the spring of 2008, Parag had been an Associate Director at Intel Capital's India venture team in Bangalore. At Inventus, Parag is a Board Director at redBus, Vizury, and Wealth India.
Parag is a Charter Member of TiE Bangalore and has an MBA from Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore and a BSME from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi.
Jaspreet Bindra spearheads Microsoft Entertainment & Devices Division in India. He is responsible for strategy, operations and the marketing and sales efforts for Microsoft's Hardware products (primarily input devices i.e. mice and keyboards); Gaming (Xbox 360 and games) and Home Productivity software (Windows/ Student Home Office) sales at retail.
Prior to this role, Jaspreet was the Country Manager for Microsoft India's Online Services Group. His responsibilities included business development, sales and marketing with a focus on growing the popularity of MSN India & Windows Live services; bringing new advertisers online and exploring business opportunities in the booming mobile market.
Some of his success included, leading India specific consumer initiatives such as regional language services on MSN, personalized email (www.coolhotmail.com), mobile search agreements with mobile operators in India.
Jaspreet has served as the Vice Chairman of the Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) for the year 2007.
Jaspreet began his career with the Tata Group. He was inducted under the prestigious Tata Administrative Services (TAS), and held senior sales, marketing and general business management positions in the telecom, internet and consumer companies within the group. From the Tata's he moved on to be a part of the founding team for Baazee.com - now known as eBay India as the Chief Operating Officer.
